My intent is for this painting to represent the renewal so many are hopeful will begin soon, a rebirth, Ukraine like a phoenix is coming up from the ground which is submerging ashes and blood. Color and form tell the story of trauma that can never be forgotten. Texture, like a thick skin, conveys the toughness and commitment of the Ukrainian people. And light conveys the energy and love of Ukraine that will be needed over the long expanse of time it will take to heal and rebuild.
